SCUGNIZZO VISITS MERRICKS
5 courses of handmade Italian cuisine prepared by guest chef Carmine Carannante
‘Some of our fondest memories are those from our childhood.’
For Owner & Head Chef Carmine Carannante, the sight of watching his mother sauté onion & garlic, the thrill of helping his grandmother roll gnocchi on a Sunday & the wonder of learning the traditional and fine art of Italian cooking from them, are memories that still make him smile.
These moments inspired Carmine to explore his love of cooking. His passion for the culinary arts saw him travel to London where he worked for some of the top restaurants & chefs including Harvey Nichols, the Cavendish Hotel & Zaneda Bar. It was there, whilst he was working in London, that he met his wife, Nonie. Together they moved to Melbourne in 2006 & opened their first restaurant, named after the affectionate Neapolitan nickname they gave their son – Scugnizzo. Carmine hopes to bring some of the warmth & love from his home to their cosy Italian restaurant.
Specialising in house made pasta from pappardelle, to ricotta filled ravioli & lentil gnocchi, Scugnizzo prides itself on serving traditional Italian with a little twist. The ever-evolving menu & weekly specials means there is always something fresh for you to try on a foodie tour of Italy.
Carmine & his wife Nonie own a bustling Italian restaurant, Scugnizzo 558 Little Bourke Street Melbourne.
