Steel Gate Shiraz Melba Block 2020

Situated at 150m above sea level, planted in the early 1980s. Similar to the Homeblock, the Melba block vines are all cared for by hand, 100% cane pruned to ensure best quality fruit is grown and hand harvested.

WINEMAKING:

100% Hand picked Shiraz on 15 Apr 2020. De-stemmed (5% whole bunch). Fermented and matured in a combination of aged & new french oak for 10 months.

TASTING NOTES:

CIn the glass, the wine presents a deep ruby hue, hinting at the cool-climate intensity within. The nose opens with aromas of blackcurrant and red plum, interwoven with peppery spice, eucalyptus, and a touch of wet earth — a nod to the season’s wild temperament. On the palate, this light-to-medium bodied Shiraz reveals a gorgeous, velvety texture, showcasing ripe dark plum characters and lovely soft tannins. Fresh berry notes linger, supported by vibrant acidity and hints of clove, star anise, and gentle oak influence. The finish is long and evolving, with lingering spice and a burst of juicy red and black fruits. It’s a wine that speaks of its vintage — a snapshot of a tumultuous year, transformed into something unexpectedly beautiful and generous.
