Lagrein Wine a Northern Italian Classic

The grape is native to Trentino, in northern Italy. It is considered one of the oldest varieties of grape in the area. Its history dates back to 1379, but its current presence is only limited in this area. Although Lagrein is closely related to Schiava Gentile and Cabernet Franc, the latter is arguably the most famous. While it shares similar characteristics with both, this variety is much more complex than the former.

Like its neighbour, Sangiovese, Lagrein is an ancient grape variety that grows in sunny vineyards in Alto Adige. It has a deep, full-bodied flavour and mellow tannins.
