Collection: Pinot Nero Wine
Pinot Nero
Pinot Nero and Pinot Noir, one of Italy's most famed wines, is also one of its most versatile. Often appearing in combinations of several different styles of red wine, it can be found in so many different places that it is often referred to as Italy's signature wine. The grape used to make this great Italian red is widely planted across the country. Pinot Noir is even produced in the northeast of France, where it is sometimes referred to as "Chardonnay." As a result, there are many different variations of this versatile grape, each with its own name and personality.
Pinot Noir, like many of Italy's great tasting red wines, is made from the grape that makes its namesake blossom at the foot of Montella hill. Pinot Noiras, as they are called in Italy, is commonly found in regions surrounding the Liguria River. The word "pinot" means "little flower," and pinot noiras are noted for their tiny blooms, which produce a light, lilac-coloured wine with a delicate aroma. The Italian word for this grape is "pinta."
In vintage wine, the grapes used are of the same grape family as the Pinot Noir, and Pinotiano is often confused with pinot noirbo. While the names often sound similar, they are entirely different grapes. Italian wine makers, for centuries, have noted the arrival of spring and the grape variety known as trentino, which is an Italian word for pale. Traditionally used in making rose wines, trentino grapes were used to make this glorious red wine.
Pinot Nero, a.k.a. the " Noble Pinot," is made from the same grape family as pinot noir varietal, but has a lighter body and a more mellow flavour. A lighter and milder red wine, pinot nero pairs well with platters of fresh vegetables and bread served with red sauce.
Winemakers in Italy continue to produce this grape, which is noted for its high yield and versatility. There are virtually hundreds of variations of this varietal, all with unique flavours. Pinot neros from Italy are commonly available through both local and international markets.

For many years, pinot nero wines from Italy have been distinguished for their delicate, herbal flavour that is much less acidic than most kinds of wine. It's also been noted for having a distinctive, fruit-juicy over-acidity.
